As you can see on the opening page, the 2008 contest is finally finished and the PoY is posted. 2009 is rolling along and we are working on those issues which caused delays last year.

We are still looking for members to help with content for the site. With nothing from you I will be forced to put up my weak work, as you can see on the left fo this column. You folks must have better stuff than this. Send me a link to your multimedia work and we will rotate out mine with better work.

Pictures of the Year International is accepting online regristration for this year's contest through January 15, 2009. Now in its 66th year, POYi continutes to recognize excellence in documentary photography, multimedia, and photo editing. In a note calling for entries, Rick Shaw, POYUi director, notes that when you enter Pictures of the Year International, your work reaches out to citizens worldwide through public exhibitions and becomes a part of visual history. The 60th annual (2009) Southern Short Course in News Photogrpahy will be held in Charlotte, NC in conjunction with the North Carolina Press Photographers Association and South Carolina News Photographers Association meeting. The dates this year are Feb. 5-8, 2009 at the Hilton Charlotte Center City at 222 East Third Street, Charlotte, NC.

Faculty includes: Emcee Michael Williamson of the Washington Post; Preston Gannaway of the Rocky Mountain News; James Gregg of the Arizona Daily Star; Bill Bangham of the International Missions Board; Ross Taylor of the Hardford Courant; Barbara Marshall of Lamb & Braswell, LLC and Nicole Fruge of the San Antonio Express-News. Special guest is Gene Furr, SSC Lifetime Achievement winner.
