Christopher Rex Conway, 22, yells out the back of an Athens Clarke County Police car after being arrested on multiple drug related charges after Conway was spotted driving recklessly and fled from police. After being stopped, Conway falsely claimed he had been shot and his vehicle was searched, revealing a large sum of cash, ziploc bags of marijuana, other drugs and ammunition.

Jody Brown from the Southwest Florida Archaeological Society, combs through dirt on a sifter hoping to find artifacts from the Calusa Indian tribe Thursday as several volunteers came to Marco Island to help search piles of dirt excavated from Vernon Place. Dozens of cultural artifacts, such as shell hammers and pottery were unearthed.

Kanapaha Botanical Gardens director Don Goodman wades through a stream at the gardens in Gainesville while fertilizing Victoria water lilies. Four years ago Goodman had his right arm torn from his body by an alligator while cleaning a nearby pond. Goodman understands that some people might be scared out of the water by such an incident, but he loves gardening and working outdoors, so he still wades through the ponds to maintain them on a regular basis.

The Torres family, a prominent Hispanic family in Saluda, recently started the Mexican tradition of horse racing on land they bought outside of town. The races usually quarter mile sprints on a straight track draw hundreds each racing day. Horse racing is becoming popular throughout South Carolina and bordering states with more tracks opening up each year. Hispanics say it is a harmless tradition where friends get together and have innocent wagers for bragging rights. Opponents complain of the noise, illegal gambling and alcohol abuse.
